The Chalwyn range of air intake and fuel shut down valves, spark arrestors, flameproof alternators and engine monitoring equipment are designed to the latest European & US standards for hazardous area operation.

Diesel Engine Air Intake Closure Valves

Simple cost effective automatic overspeed protection valves requiring no external power or signals. Designed for incorporating into the engine air intake hose. Type D valves are available for intake pipe diameters up to about 330mm. Optional features include manual shutdown and integral air cleaners on some models.

Automatic Fuel Shut Down Valve

Operates in conjunction with Chalwyn ‘D’, ‘X’ or ‘Z’ Valves to automatically close down the engine diesel supply should engine over speeding occur. Manual reset is necessary after an automatic shut down as required by EN 1834.1 : 2000.

Spark Arrestors

Quenching type spark arrestors. May be installed at any position in the exhaust system. Sub-devided into two basic ranges :

Available in carbon steel only and suitable for diesel engines with ratings below 7.5 bkW. Manufactured in 100% stainless steel. SSL spark arrestors are available for engines with ratings between 7.5 bkW and 373 bkW. Certified under the ATEX Directive.

Flameproof Alternators

Standard automotive type engine mounted alternators are a potential ignition source and are therefore not permitted to be used in areas classified as hazardous. To overcome this Chalwyn have introduced a range of flameproof alternators (externally excited and self-exciting) specifically for direct mounting on diesel engines.

Engine Monitoring & Automatic Shutdown Valves

Designed to be installed as an integral part of a full diesel engine flameproof installation meeting the latest UK and European standards for hazardous area operation. Fully protected electrical sensing of engine speed, temperatures and pressures. Automatic engine shutdown is by closure of both air intake supply and the fuel supply. Options are available to suit engines with or without an electrical power supply.
